# Player settings

A settings menu each player controls for themselves.

<img src="/settings-rows.svg" alt="A switch row flips on and off, a choice row cycles through its options" />

Not the plugin's settings. Those are in `config.yml` and behind `/asw menu`, and they are yours.
This one is opened from the lobby hotbar or from a player's profile, and everything in it applies
to that one player.

## The settings

| Setting | Choices | What it changes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Scoreboard | on / off | Whether the scoreboard is drawn for them. |
| Private messages | Everyone / Friends / Nobody | Who may send them a private message. |
| Players in lobby | shown / hidden | Whether they see other players standing in the lobby. |
| Party requests | Everyone / Friends / Nobody | Who may invite them to a party. |
| Friend requests | Everyone / Nobody | Who may ask to be their friend. |
| Chat mentions | Everyone / Friends / Nobody | Who may say their name and have it ping them. |
| Friend notifications | on / off | Whether they are told when a friend comes online. |
| Appear offline | on / off | Whether their friends see them as offline. |

A setting with three choices cycles: left click for the next one, right click for the previous.
All three are listed in the item, with the current one marked.

## How it behaves

* Nothing changes for a player until they open the menu.
* A setting they have never touched follows whatever the server already did, so changing a server
  default still reaches them.
* Turning **players in lobby** off hides everyone from that player. It hides them from nobody.
* **Players in lobby** never applies inside a match. The arena decides who is visible there.
* **Friend requests** has no Friends option, because friends only would mean nobody could ever
  become one.
* Someone who tries to invite a player who has requests turned off is told so.

:::note
**Private messages** is one choice for both kinds of message. `/friend msg` reads it directly, and
on a server with EssentialsX, picking a value also writes the same flag `/msgtoggle` does, so `/msg`
agrees with it: Everyone opens it, Friends and Nobody close it. Friends still reach a player on
Friends through `/friend msg`. A player who never touched the row keeps whatever they told
`/msgtoggle`.

## Showing the state in the lore

Every row carries two placeholders, and both work in `NAME` and in `LORE`, as many times as you
like.

| Placeholder | Gives you |
| --- | --- |
| `%state%` | The answer already styled: `[ON]`, `[OFF]`, `[Everyone]` |
| `%raw%` | The same answer with no colours and no brackets: `ON`, `Everyone` |

The shipped rows put `%state%` in the name. Moving it into the lore is a matter of taking it out
of one and putting it in the other:

```yaml [plugins/AetherSkyWars/menus/player-settings.yml]
Scoreboard:
  NAME: "&#2E9FD4Scoreboard"
  LORE:
    - "&#9BA6B2Currently: &#5AC8FA%raw%"
```

The wording behind both lives in the language files, under `Menus.Player-Settings.State`, so `ON`
and `OFF` can say whatever suits your server and stay translated. `Choice` is the wrapper for a
three way row and holds `%choice%` where the chosen one goes.

```yaml [plugins/AetherSkyWars/languages/en_us.yml]
Menus:
  Player-Settings:
    State:
      Enabled: "&#9BA6B2[&#6EE7A8&lON&r&#9BA6B2]"
      Disabled: "&#9BA6B2[&#FF6B6B&lOFF&r&#9BA6B2]"
      Choice: "&#9BA6B2[&#5AC8FA%choice%&#9BA6B2]"
      Raw-Enabled: "ON"
      Raw-Disabled: "OFF"
```

:::note
The keys are `Enabled` and `Disabled` rather than `On` and `Off` on purpose. YAML reads a bare
`On` or `Off` as a true or false value rather than as text, so those two names would not be
findable.
:::

## Chat mentions

Saying a player's name in chat pings them, unless they have turned mentions off or limited them to
friends.

Nobody is pinged about a message they cannot see, so this behaves on a server running
`Enable-Chat-Per-Map`.

## Where it is

The lobby hotbar item is `Player-Settings`, and there is a button on the profile menu. Both open
the same menu, laid out in `player-settings.yml`.

:::warning
`Items.Settings` is a different item. That one is the arena setup item an admin carries while
building a map. The lobby one is `Items.Player-Settings`.
:::

## Where it is stored

Columns on the player table, added on the first start after updating. A player who has never
opened the menu has nothing stored, which is what keeps them on the server default.
