# Parties

A built-in party system, so friends end up in the same match.

Parties need no extra plugin. A player creates a party, invites others, and when the owner
joins an arena the whole party follows.

## Commands

| Command | What it does | Permission |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `/party create` | Starts a party with you as the owner. | `asw.party.owner` |
| `/party invite <player>` | Invites a player. | `asw.party.invite` |
| `/party accept` | Accepts a pending invite. | `asw.party.accept` |
| `/party kick <player>` | Removes someone from your party. | `asw.party.owner` |
| `/party leave` | Leaves the party you are in. | `asw.party.leave` |
| `/party disband` | Closes the party and removes everyone. | `asw.party.owner` |

`/party` on its own lists these. The command also answers to `/p`, `/prty`, `/pty`, `/festa`, `/swp`,
and `/aswparty`.

## How it behaves

<img src="/party-invite-lifecycle.svg" alt="A party invite is sent, waits while the same player cannot be re-invited, and expires" />

* Only the owner can invite, kick, and disband.
* An invite waits for the other player to run `/party accept`, and expires after the number of
seconds in `Party-Invite-Expire-Seconds` (30 unless you change it). Until it expires, the same
player cannot be invited again, which is what stops invite spam. The
[player card](/features/player-card) counts the wait down live on the invite button.
* A player already in a party cannot be invited, and the sender is told whose party is in the
  way: theirs, or someone else's.
* When the owner joins an arena, party members are pulled in with them.
* If the arena does not have room for the whole party, the ones who do not fit stay behind.
* Leaving a match does not leave the party. Use `/party leave` for that.
* Being in a party never protects anyone in a Solo arena. Party members pulled into the same
solo match fight each other like anybody else; only a Teams arena has team protection.

:::tip
In a Teams arena, a party is the simplest way to make sure friends share a team. Get everyone
into the party before the owner joins.

## Turning parties off

There is no config switch. Take the party permissions away from the default group instead,
and the commands stop working for players who do not have them. See
[Permissions](/configuration/permissions).
